OSAMA’S SONS

It is said by the Pakistani government, that one of Osama’s sons escaped the US raid to kill Osama.  He is also known as the so called prince of terror.  He has been missing since the raid.  One of his 17 sons said, “We maintain that arbitrary killing is not a solution to political problems," the statement continued, adding that "justice must be seen to be done."  President Obama has rejected suggestions that the killing was improper, telling "60 Minutes" that anyone who questioned whether bin Laden deserved his fate "needs to have their head examined."http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110511/ts_yblog_thelookout/bin-laden-family-condemns-killing-while-wife-says-one-son-escaped

FAMILY WEALTH

A man named Wellington R. Burt was a very rich timber baron from Saginaw.  He did not want his children to end up spoiled and bad people so he created a very strange will.  He decided that the wealth that he would leave behind would be distributed to the family 21 years after his grandchildren’s death.  This meant that all the money would go to hid great and great great grandchildren.it was just a very weird decision.http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/112715/shutting-kids-out-family-fortune-wsj?mod=family-kids_parents

OSAMA BIN LADEN

With Osama Bin Laden now dead, a lot of questions have risen on the subject of Al Qaida.   Many people fear that sense American Navy Seals have shot and killed Osama Bin Laden, Al Qaida will seek retaliation.  People believe that they would like to retaliate but if they do it will take them some time before they could. People ask what will become of Al Qaida.  There is no doubt they will continue to run but this is a strong hit on them   http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_exclusive/20110502/pl_yblog_exclusive/after-bin-ladens-death-whats-next-for-the-u-s-and-al-qaida

REFLECTION

The class discussion was pretty interesting, and I think that a lot more people came prepared for this discussion.  It was also one of the most intense discussions yet.  I could see anger in a lot of people’s eyes.  I don’t like when people are so one sided, that they don’t even take any consideration in to what others have to say.  It is kind of sad that they can’t even look at the problem from both sides. Without looking at the problem from both sides, how are you supposed to solve it in the first place?  I don’t know why or how the issue of race got involved, but I knew before I walked in that a couple of certain people would bring it up for no reason.  I understand that there is an issue of race that goes along with immigration, but they were talking about slaves and stuff which I don’t see how that ties in to immigration at all.  That whole topic of racism just made me mad.  Especially when the one guy looked right at Cole and said, “you people”.  But I feel like I said all I wanted to, so that was good.  It was exciting discussion and I looking forward to another.

Florida laws

Florida now wants to take a state control on undocumented immigrants.  Florida has received more than 3 million new residents in the past decade, a third of which is due to immigration.  In the state of Florida about 700,000 of the residents are immigrants. “The proposals on the table are said to be Arizona-style legislation. The House version of the bill lays out provisions that would enable state authorities to charge a foreign national without papers with a second degree misdemeanor. This offense would be punishable by $100 fine and 20 days in jail for the first offense and 30 days in jail for the second offense.” Why are we wasting money bon putting them in jail. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ac/20110424/tr_ac/8357571_florida_takes_on_illegal_immigration_in_arizonastyle_bills_1

TAYLOR SWIFT

So I am tired of getting crap about liking Taylor Swift. She is a great singer and she is pretty cute if you ask me.  All of her songs are great and you can always listen to her and feel better.  I honestly don’t understand how people can sit there and call me gay for liking a girl singer.  It’s like ok you like a guy singer, what does that make you.    It is pretty damn ignorant.  Now I have no problem with gay people, in fact my best friend is gay, but I don’t like being called things that I’m not.  It doesn’t normally bother me because I don’t care what people think but lately it has been just annoying.  Everyone has been saying something and its like a buzzing in my ear.  After hearing it for the third time in one day it’s like ok really shut the hell up, if I wanted your opinion I would ask for it. Well ok its good to complain to something.  Here is a link to one of my favorite songs by Taylor Swift.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOnAvewqjrY

OBAMA’S WORD CHOICE

In this video It talks about how when Obama first ran for president, his speeches were filled with and based on the words HOPE and CHANGE.  Now as he decides that he is going to run for reelection, he changed his key words and speech basis to the word compassion.  He uses the word compassion to frame his 2012 election talk, not around a single issue, but us as a country.  They say he is trying be above politics, looking out for the good of Americans, rather than trying to score political points.  http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_newsroom/20110418/pl_yblog_newsroom/obamas-new-buzz-word-the-fast-fix

NATION’S DEBT

Obama plans to tackle the nation’s debt.  He plans to raise taxes slightly and unfortunately put the health care plan behind the nation’s fiercely growing debt.  He is going to hold a speech that will define the nation’s debt and he will announce his deficit plan for 2012. White house officials said,” Obama knows he has to reduce spending on medicate and Medicare and may call for higher taxes on the richer croud.    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_spending_showdown

LETTER TO OBAMA

Libyan leader Gadhafi appealed directly to President Barack Obama on Wednesday to end what Gadhafi called "an unjust war." He also wished Obama good luck in his bid for re-election next year.  Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton wants Gadhafi to pull his forces back and cease attacks.  She also wants him to step down from power and leave the country.     http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_us_libya

DOES NATO HELP?

One of the rebel’s leaders yelled at NATO and told them that they were not doing enough in a mission to protect Libyan citizens.  NATO replied back in saying that Gadahfi had placed heavy weapons where the airstrikes were supposed to be. He said, NATO forces "don't do anything" even though the United Nations gave them the right to act. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/af_libya

FRAUD

Customers are being warned of fraud E-mails. Companies behind such brands as Chase, Citi and Best Buy said over the weekend that hackers may have learned their email addresses because of a security breach at a Dallas-based company called Epsilon that manages email communications.  Companies are afraid that these hackers will send out fraud E-mails and access the owners accounts.  http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Banks-creditcard-issuers-warn-apf-754015157.html

SELFLESS ACT

On a rainy day in Madison Georgia, Anaiah Rucker who was 9 years old, and her five year old sister Camry were walking to the school bus stop.  As they crossed a street, Anaiah quickly pushed her little sister out of the way of an oncoming vehicle.  She took the hit instead of her little sister.  She lost a leg and a kidney because of this.  Their mom saw the whole accident from her porch.  Luckily the bus driver quickly acted and gave Anaiah CPR.  http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110323/ts_yblog_thelookout/nine-year-old-loses-leg-while-saving-little-sisters-life

HELP FOR JAPAN

On March 22, 2011, the emergency shelter at Saitama Super Arena stopped accepting volunteers after it reached its maximum limit of five hundred volunteers.  More than one thousand five hundred volunteers that wanted to help those in need, were turned away by volunteers holding hand-printed cardboard signs that said "We are sorry, but we cannot take any more volunteers. SEARCH DOGS

Believe it or not dogs are playing a huge role in the search for survivors in all the rubble in Japan.  The dogs run full speed trained to seek out alive survivors and block out the dead smell.  The dogs being used were also used in Haiti and helped find dozens of survivors. Just because these dogs are fully trained doesn’t mean they don’t get hurt on the job.  But when they do get hurt they are stitched up right then and there so they can get right back to finding survivors.  http://www.cnn.com/video/

REFLECTION

I believe that there was a lot of good insight from a lot of new people today. I also think that many people just took the things that someone else said and reworded it. To be honest I kind of got tired of hearing the same thing from different people. I was also getting irritated when I wanted to say something and someone would just talk over me. By the time the person that would talk over me was finished talking i had forgot what I wanted to say anyway.   I'm not a very rude person so I am not just going to talk over someone to get my point across. I'm glad you called on me to give me a chance to talk. I appreciate that. But it was a good discussion and I got to listen to some different opinions from some different people.

WHIP

Since Obama has approved of the idea of the building of mosque at ground zero, people are starting to perceive him as a Muslim.  The Pew Research Centre has recently done a poll where they asked Americans what religion  Obama is.  They found that every 1 in 5 Americans believes that Obama is a Muslim.  Only about 34% of people answered correctly when they said that he was Christian.  About 43% of people answered that they did not know what religion he was.  It is sad to know how little Americans know about the person who runs their country.http://www.prlog.org/11271303-why-do-1-in-5-americans-perceive-obama-as-muslim.html

RADIATION LEAKS

This article talks about how much of Japan is an isolated wasteland.  Many Japanese residents are scared to leave there homes due to the radiation leaks.  First the earthquake then the tsunami and now radiation leaks.  There have been long lines at the airports for people trying to get away from the radiation leaks.  Many people stocked up on food and stay indoors trying to escape the radiation.  Others are just leaving.   http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110316/wl_nm/us_japan_quake_tokyo

ZOMBIE ANTS!!!!!!!

There was a new discover called zombie ants.  This happens when a fungus takes over the ants brain and tells in what to do.  After the fungus takes over it usually makes the ant take it to a more suitable place for it to live and spread its spores to different ants.  This is very bizarre.   http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20110310/od_yblog_upshot/zombie-ants-fall-victim-to-mind-control-fungus

WISCONSIN SCHOOL BUDGET CUTS

Wisconsin's governor Scott Walker has a new budget proposal that cuts 834 million dollars from public schooling k-12 for the next two years.  He says this would allow families in Milwauke to join any private school that wished to participate in the program.  He also wants to get rid of state test to see if private schools have an impact or not.  "Schools still can get money from other sources, such as the federal government and targeted state funding programs. But Walker also introduced plans to eliminate grant programs for Advanced Placement courses, alcohol and drug abuse prevention, nurses, alternative and at-risk education, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics education." this whole plan just seems really messed up to me.I suggest you read the whole article

MOSQUE CONTROVERSY REFLECTION

Today’s discussion was heated if you ask me. I believe that Mj brought a lot of good information and research that really sparked this discussion. I learned a lot more just from listening to her but she also mentioned some things I already knew. I think people in class were having more of an angry screaming version of a debate rather than a discussion. I also think people brought more of a bias opinion rather than factual information or an “argument”. I am not going to lie I got a little pissed off today when I would have something to say and people would just talk over me or start arguing with someone and there would be two to three people talking at once.  It was like every time I started to say something someone would just start talking louder than me. It got to the point where I just kind of gave up at trying to speak out. I was able to get a few statements out but not all I wanted to.  But after the discussion, Andrea and I had our own little miniature discussion. It was pretty funny but I actually got to say what I wanted to say and since she was for it and I was against it, it worked out pretty well. But all in all it was a good discussion and I look forward to the next one.

JETPACK!!!!!!!

Wow!   It finally happened.  A jet pack was invented.  Canadian inventor Raymond Li invented a jetpack that is powered by water.  It allows you to fly about 30 feet in the air and fly around at about 22 miles per hour.  The only catch is u have to be flying over water. His invention is called Jetlev. If you are thinking you want it, it is probably way to expensive for you.  http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=water+jet+pack&fr=buzzlogsrp&gid=94271

Chinese artist Liu Bolin knows how to make himself partially invisible.  He has help from some assistants in painting his body.  Then he just stands there and well basically blends in to his surroundings.  It takes him hours to find the perfect pose for him to perfectly blend in.  I think this is pretty amazing and people should take a look at some of his works.http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20110203/od_yblog_upshot/the-man-who-isnt-there

HEALTH CARE REPEAL DIES IN THE SENATE

The Republican attempt to repeal the health care law has been put down today.  Now the decision for the health care has been left up to the Supreme Court.  President Obama said, “he has vowed to veto any total repeal of his signature legislative accomplishment, has said he would accept the change.” Just some more changes on health care.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_health_care_senate

TENSIONS RISE IN EGYPT

The peaceful protests in Egypt are continuing throughout the streets of Cario.  The military of Egypt is ordering everyone to go home and stay home.  Just in the past two weeks, oil prices have raised over 100$ a barrel.  Our military will probably not get drawn in but our government is “strongly urging President Hosni Mubarak to move faster in loosening his 30-year grip on the country”.http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_exclusive/20110202/pl_yblog_exclusive/how-outcome-in-egypt-could-affect-the-united-states

HEALTH CARE DISCUSSION REFLECTION

I would have to say that I really liked this discussion. It gave a chance for everyone to voice his or her thoughts and opinions on health care. I am not very much of a public speaker but I do like to express my thoughts. This discussion gave me a chance to hear other people’s thoughts on the issue. I never would have guessed some of the things they had to say. I did have the urge to kind of “cut people off” as they were talking to express why I disagreed with them but I withheld my voice. I would like to be able to “cut people off” because by the time they were done talking I had forgot what I had to say or they had brought something new up that I had disagreed upon. But other than that I think the discussion went really well. I’ve learned a lot of new things about health care by listening to other people and looking up my questions online but there is still so much that I don’t know. I will probably continue to learn about health care but I’ll probably get stuck on our next topic as well. Thanks for teaching me about health care Mr. Palo.

"Eyewitness recounts Gardena High shooting on Twitter: 'I’m freaked out"

At Gardena High School there was a shooting in the classrooom that injured two kids. A kid in the class where the shooting took place tweets on twitter about the attack and how horrific it was for him.
